Tolka w/ Guest Speaker: Bernadette Atkinson
(Making Marngrook) Sunday 4th February
Hello neighbourhood concert-goers,
Before I get into the details of this wonderful concert, I just want to share with you a moment from the first of our summer concert series last Sunday at Joe’s Market Garden with Lucy Wise, and guest speaker Anna Seed.
Anna was a truly inspiring master of her craft. Here is a photo of her taking us through her process of creating form and how she ties different elements of a painting together.
Our next concert features the band Tolka – Winners of the Age Music Victoria Awards – Best Folk Roots Album of 2015! Wielding Guitars, Banjos, Flutes and Violins their music is inspired by traditional Irish music as well as the wider Australian folk scene.
Our Guest Speaker will be Bernadette Atkinson, a Wolithiga woman from the Yorta Yorta Nations. She has been making Marngrooks for the past year, using it as a way to connect others in her community to their culture. The origins of Australian rules football are to be found in the game of Marngrook which was played by Indigenous communities using the Marngrook, a football made from possum skin.
So here are all the details you need to know:
