Eltham Bookshop, Yarra Plenty Regional Library and Stella Prize warmly invite you to raise a toast to celebrate Stella Prize 2018 winner, our own local author, Alexis Wright, and two sparklingly talented Melbourne writers.
Shokoofeh Azar’s powerful novel, The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree, is a magical book set in the political wilds of Iran. The Stella judges described it as “a stunning meditation on grief and loss in the life of a family and a society by an extraordinary Australian writer”.
Claire G. Coleman’s,Terra Nullius, is an arresting and original novel that addresses the legacy of Australia’s violent colonial history. The Stella judges described it as “a novel for our times, one whose tone is as impassioned as its message is necessary”.
Alexis Wright’s collective memoir, Tracker, documents the life of Tracker Tilmouth, charismatic Aboriginal leader, thinker, entrepreneur, visionary and provocateur. The judges commented: “With a tight narrative structure, compelling real-life characters, the book sings with insight and Tracker’s unique humour. Wright has crafted an epic that is a truly rewarding read”.
